Letters to the Editor
I would like to thank our elected officials who delivered Meals on Wheels for us during the month of March: Commissioner Lamar Paris, Tax Commissioner J. W. Payne, and Sheriff, Scott Stephens and deputies. They are interested in our seniors and their wellbeing. I would like to thank the North Georgia News and Norman Cooper for their support and coverage of our events and everyone who has given a donation to the Meals on Wheels Program. A special thank you to our dedicated Meals on Wheels volunteers who deliver to the seniors daily. Union County is a caring community and this is evident by the number of calls and donations we have received this month. We are a success because of your support! Thank you!

Tickled pink, maybe
After reading Mr. Cooper's hilarous column on the color crayons, I was tickled Pink, provided that is still the name of the color.
One horse still at gate
I thought there were three candidates for commisisoner on the Democratic side. So far, I've only seen comments in the newspaper from two, Lamar and Tony. Did the other guy drop out? If he is still running, why haven't we heard from him on these issues? The race is on and so far only two horses have left the starting gate.

Three choices for sheriff: Professional career law man who has been a part of our community for a very long time, a disgruntled deputy who says God has been talking to him or floundering real estate person who is bad mouthing our fine sheriff and good deputies while he thinks he is superior to us lowly hillbillies. I'm voting for Scott.

Not sending anymore
I have sent a half dozen viewpoints that you have not printed, so I am not sending anymore. I guess what I write about isn't good enough.
Discombobulated section
With all respect for the North Georgia News and this ViewPoint section, still, the viewpoints just seem to get more and more stupid and ignorant each and every week. Mr. Viewpoint, I think you need a much deserved vacation. Please take a few weeks off, and hopefully when you return, these viewpoints will not be focused on one subject, and they won't be so downright discombo-bulated! Thank You.

Will Oprah read Cooper
Mr. Cooper's column was right on when he said that the freak claiming to be a man having a baby is not a man at all. She has the insides of a woman, which is what she is. The child should be taken into protective custody when it is born. I am mailing a copy of his column to several people, including Oprah, to set them straight about the "freaky female."
Thanks for honesty
Just wanted to say a public thank you to the fine gentleman who retrieved my purse from the bench outside Fatz Café and turned it in to the Manager, intact! I truly appreciate your honesty and again am reminded how blessed I am to be able to live in this wonderful place called Blairsville.

Letters to the Editor
Hello friends and family of Union County. I am writing this letter to comment on the ViewPoint titled Sheriff too aggressive, sent in by an unknown person. Personally, I think Sheriff Scott Stephens is doing an awesome job. So what if you get pulled over. If you are doing nothing wrong, then you have nothing to worry about. As for the hiring extra officers, maybe if Union County did not have the current drug problem that it does, the need for all the extra officers would not exist. If the taxpayers money is what you are looking to save the people of this county, show some support for our Sheriff and his team. I, myself, having lived a life of drug and alcohol abuse, now saved by God's grace, know that living that way is a dead end. Thank you Scott for all your efforts. Read the entire letter in the NGN.

Drug dealers anti-Sheriff
I am getting tired of the Sheriff and his investigators busting my customers for dope. We need a change. Please vote for somebody else.
Live with Governor
So a candidate will appoint and assign a committee to live with the governor and his staff until the candidate gets what he wants. I want to be appointed to that committee. I would like living in the Governor's mansion in Atlanta.
Count me in
To the guy who thought the Sheriff's Office is too aggressive, maybe we should hire more officers in order to bust people like you who provide drugs to kids. Also, I support you in your desire to sell drugs. Then maybe my home will be broken into and my family killed! Yeah! Count me in!

Bring 'em all home
Help me understand why people are more concerned about bringing our troops home from Iraq than they are about bringing them home from Bosnia.
Credit history important
As an employer, I would like to answer the writer of the "Bad credit, but hire me" ViewPoint. Checking on the credit report of potential employees is important. I want to see if they are responsible persons. If they don't take care of themselves, they won't take care of my business. If they are in debt, they may steal from me. The statement of "This is personal, and should not be included in with the hiring" could be a reason that person can't find a job. I would never hire such a person. Job history, personality, background check and credit history are priorities for me.
Sheriff too aggressive
I think the Sheriff's office has been too aggressive against those who use drugs for their own pleasure, share it with friends and maybe even sell a little to make extra money for skyrocketing gas prices and other expenses. This (expletive deleted) cost taxpayers extra money hiring all those officers who harass law abiding citizens who aren't bothering anybody else.

They all look alike
I love seeing the new born babies in the paper. It's very uplifting, but I often wonder if I am the only one who thinks they all look the same.
Mis-info vs job doer
Some people pester the [heck] our of government employees for records and distort the information on web sites and campaign material. The sheriff is busy doing his job, not filling up websites with misinformation. Scott gets my vote.

Wannabe dreamers
Our sheriff has done an unbelievable outstanding job. Who are these guys who are running for the position? Is it that they can put on their resume that they ran for the position? Has anyone heard of them before?. Are they dreamer wannabes who have read to many books? Did their mothers tell them to think positive? I just don't get it. If they think they have any chance of winning I would suggest they lobby the people in jail for their vote.
Will history repeat itself
Americans are trying to keep immigrants from coming here. Are they afraid the immigrants will take over like our ancestors did?
Deer rope column funny
Just wanted to let you know how funny this week's column [How to Rope a Deer] was. Good job. I think I may know this guy or be related thru marriage.

Vote 'No' to oafish
Anti-community candidates are no laughing matter, certainly not comedy. Tragedy is knowing their fallacious views are published for the world to see, which brings an unwelcomed black eye to our community. Vote 'No' to oafish.
Nah-nah-hey-hey-goodbye
I will keep writing to the View Points section because all of my submissions always get printed. They are printed because they are interesting, intelligent, and of course because me and the editor are quite friendly with each other. So, to the whiner who never gets printed, nah-nah-nah-nah, hey, hey, goodbye!
What's Hillary thinking
Hillary's latest speech says that McCain brings experience and she brings experience and Obama brings a speech. Sounds good, but if McCain and Obama face each other in the general election, all McCain needs to do is run Hillary's speech. What is she thinking?

ViewPoints not printed
I think I will stop writing to the viewpoint as well as just stop buying the paper altogether. None of my viewpoints are getting printed and I have not even seen any recent birthday ads or announcements or anything of the like in the paper either. Of course me and the uhmmm---editor(s) are not quite on friendship terms either, for some reason.
Hillary, Obama, McCain all agree on issue
Hillary keeps telling us over and over and over that Obama is not fit to be president of the United States. Obama keeps telling us over and over and over that Hillary is not fit to be president of the United States. John McCain keeps telling us that Hillary nor Obama are fit to be president of the United States. All three happen to be right.

Mexico may need a fence
If Hillary or Obama are elected as president, Mexico will need a border fence to protect it's country from people leaving America.

Obama dreams of his father
The reason the voter thought Senator Obama to be a Muslim may be because his father was a Muslim and his step-father was a Muslim and he went to a Muslim school as a child. He freely admits to this in his autobiography, "Dreams from My Father." However, the poll worker is correct: this conversation should not have taken place in the polling place!
Use all Obama facts, not fractions
The letters in last week’s paper concerning Barack Obama left out some important points concerning Mr. Obama’s faith and history. His ancestry is well documented in his books and speeches. Because his grandfather and father were of the Muslim faith does not mean that he is; this is called faulty logic. As for Mr. Obama attending a Muslim School, there is more to the story. As the school’s Deputy Director in a CNN interview stated, “This is a public school. We do not focus on religion.” This fact has been verified a number of times by nationally recognized newspapers across the country. (See entire letter in NGN)

Which God said it
When someone claims "God told them" to do something, you better ask yourself, "Which god?" It is not the living God, because He doesn't tell an untrustworthy person to do something that would give them a position of authority.
Commish doing good job
I would like to express my support for our wonderful elected officials, including our Commissioner Lamar Paris and our Sheriff Scott Stephens. Both men have been great leaders in our community.
Good at administration
What the people of Union County want and deserve is good government. Lamar Paris has done a tremendous job at administering good government.

5,369 thank yous
As a citizen of this county, I would like to extend 5,369 thank yous to the 5,369 folks who voted yes for the sales tax. Thank You!
Numbers have meaning
Do you know that the numbers "5,369" spell "Victory" and the numbers "1,314" spell "Losers?"
Did you ever notice
The Roman Numerals for 40 are "XL."
Why no message
One candidate for commissioner was against SPLOST. One candidate who is the current commissioner was for SPLOST. I respect them for taking a stand on the issue. One candidate for commissioner said absolutely nothing before the vote. Why did he not go on record and let people know what he thought?

Recognizing kindness
All too often our society witnesses far too much negativity. Therefore, my husband and I would like to take the time to thank a special group of people. We want to extend our compliments and appreciation to Mike Thotherow and those who work with him for their hospitality and quality service. We wish them the best of luck.
